What To Buy Your Mum For Mother's Day

Mother's Day is just around the corner for the UK (I know internationally, it's not until May 10th!) and it's time to spoil the most important woman in your life. For me, my Mum is my best friend, my confidant, my partner in crime. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without the lady. She's so full of joy, fun, has the kindest heart and is sarcastic as hell. She's a forced to be reckoned with and deserves to be appreciated year round, but especially on this day.

I have always loved to treat her with a little something, as we all do, so I decided I would put together a little Mother's Day gift guide for you with insight from the woman I love most.

*disclaimer for you all: I wrote this before people began self-isolating or social distancing, so I want to preface the rest of this article by asking you to please stay safe if you are going out and about to get gifts for your Mum. You can even order them if that's available, but just make sure you keep yourselves healthy and safe - do the same for your families, especially your Mum!*

Flowers

Flowers are the instant go-to, aren't they? But a beautiful bunch of flowers will not only light up a room but will put a smile on your mum's face. Buy her a beautiful arrangement that the florist already has made or buy her a bunch of her favourite flowers. My ideal suggestion for Mother's Day; lillies. Lillies are such a beautiful flower, especially as we've now moved into Spring. Whilst you can head to your local florist and buy a beautiful custom bouquet, you can also check out these beautiful arrangements from Marks & Sparks!

Candles

There's nothing better than filling your home with a beautiful scent and mums love a good candle. Mother's Day is the perfect excuse to splurge on the candle your mother dearest has had her eye of for a while. Now you can go and buy her normal favourite, which she would definitely love, but going for a new one or a big one with multiple wicks that will burn forever will be all the more better. I find that department stores have the best selection, so I headed for John Lewis to see what they had. See my favourites below!

Perfume

Another instant favourite is perfume; you can never go wrong and women can never have enough of them. Buy your Mum her favourite, the one she's just ran out of or the one she's been dying to try. Personally, I'd stick to signature scents that she loves that are perfect for everyday wear because that's the one she'll love the most. My Mum's favourite scents, plus a some new ones, are linked below.

Chocolate

Ooh, chocolate. Honestly, my cravings are so strong for the sweet stuff right now (I gave up chocolate for Lent and as a chocaholic, the struggle is real). Getting a little chocolate or biscuit gift set is so easy, simple but so good - plus you could benefit from it too. This is just my chocaholic brain being selfish and needy, don't eat your Mum's gift okay (unless she offers, then go for it). M&S have always done the best biscuit tins and chocolate selections, so the fact that they have ones set for Mother's Day makes things super easy. Click the images to shop below.

Even The Simplest Things

Your mum will be happy with any sweet gesture that you can give her. Why not make her breakfast in bed, a surprise tea during the day with some biscuits, give her a massage, paint her nails, cook dinner and so on. Honestly, these simple things will bring your mum so much joy. I know that making my Mum a cuppa every day is like her favourite thing. Anytime she wants one, I'm up and there to bring her one and she's easily pleased that way.

Especially right now, when across the world, we're trying to practice self-isolation/quarantine/social-distancing in a time of the Coronavirus, simple gifts might be the best options. Making your Mum breakfast in bed (a classic), or a beautiful meal for Sunday lunch or dinner would really make her feel good. Have your own movie night where she picks the film! Make it a big spectacle - pjs, duvets, cushions. Or have a game night - I know my mum will live for this kind of thing. Just make the day fun for her! Do whatever you can to make her happy.

So even if you don't get your mum a major gift, doing the things that maybe she does for herself or for you every day, you can do for her instead. Remember - your mum holds down the fort, she deserves a little thing every so often, every day if you can!

Of course your Mum would love an insane gift, but at the same time, she'll appreciate anything you give her because she'll love that you took the time to think of ways to make her happy. It doesn't always have to be material, just something to show her you are appreciative of her and everything she does for you. Let your Mumma know you love her in any way you can!

Lots of Love,

Emily xx
