4 Easy Ways To Wear Cargo Pants During Transition Season

*Disclaimer: Affiliate links are used, this does not cost you any extra when buying products*

Some may think cargo pants are a bit dated, maybe too 90's/early 2000's, whilst others may think that they are about to make a comeback this Autumn Winter season. I, however, feel like they never left and don't get the love that they deserve, which probably down to the way they have been worn from time to time.

For me, cargo pants are easy and versatile. Plus I'm starting to seem them as more than just for casual wear. Yes they are perfect to pair with a plain tee and some simple shoes, but have you thought of dressing them up with a shirt and some heels for a unique date night look? No? Well I have.

Last weekend, I headed into one of the Mango stores here in Colombo and came across these gorgeous satin cargo pants that I knew were meant to be mine. Sadly, I can't find them on the website for you all to truly enjoy because honestly, best pair I've found. In the satin texture, they give an otherwise casual considered item new flair and elegance. Whenever satin is involved, it gives a level of extra sophistication and my first thought when I put these trousers on was, "I need to wear these to dinner with a shirt and some cute heeled sandals". I didn't eve think about the casual wear. But the longer I looked at them in the mirror, the more possibilities I saw.

So I thought I'd share the four easy ways that cargo pants can effortlessly fit into your transitional wardrobe and become your favourite piece this Fall. Or Autumn, whatever you want to call it.

Option One: Super Casual

Top - Old (similar, size up for oversized) // Shoes - Mango (similar) // Watch - Michael Kors

The easiest way to wear cargo pants is to chuck on a comfy t-shirt and go. With the looser fit of these particular pair, I like to match my t-shirt in a floaty way. I could go with a basic standard fit tee or even a cute body suit would be perfect for a super casual look, but for me it's the oversized t-shirt. It gives you that truly laid back look that you can then pair with whatever shoes; here I've got for a bit of a tougher pair of flats, but you could easily go with thong sandals, sneakers or dress it up with some heeled sandals.

Option Two: Semi Casual, With A Touch Of Sass

Top - Weekday via ASOS (similar) // Bag (similar) & Shoes - Charles & Keith // Earrings - Duende

This is a step up from the super casual with an addition of a sassy top. I love one shoulder blouses, especially with a balloon sleeve because they just add a different effect. Also I find cargo pants truly edgy with a one shoulder number, there's something that screams to me "chic". That could just be my opinion, but see for yourself. Adding a blouse with a bit of statement is going to lift your cargo pants from casual to smart casual. I've gone with thong sandals for this look, but you could easily switch to heels for an evening/night time look. Put on a pair of big earrings and statement colour clutch and you're good to go.

Option Three: Transitional

Jumper - M&S // Necklace - old // Shoes - Tony Bianco

As we are literally entering transition time, it was necessary for me to show you the ideal way to wear these trousers on a colder day. Take an easy jumper and just put it on. Simple, there's no thought to it and I probably didn't even have to say it. Any style will work for this look, but I've gone for an easy grey v-neck so it's still a bit more breathable and thinner, in case you just need a little bit of extra warmth. Since it's a plain look (like the others), accessories come in handy, so I've gone for a chunky necklace and a different coloured mule to finish this off. A perfect look for work (that is if you are returning to it!).

Option Four: Date Night

Shirt - Tommy Hilfiger Men's // Shoes - Charles & Keith // Earrings - Custom

When I bought these trousers, this was the look I initially had in mind and honestly, it might be my favourite of the lot. For me, a shirt and any kind of bottoms is a win for me. It can take you from day to night, from casual to smart casual so easily and I never get bored of outfits like this. Because the trousers are a satin, I've gone for a plain black shirt and complimented the look with baby blue mules and a pair of gold earrings. It keeps it simple but still gives you that put together look without doing much. I think this is a great date night look and all I'd add is a clutch bag (honestly, I see the mini Bottega Pouch here in the matching baby blue and now I want that bag more).

If you loved these looks or inspired you to create your own centred around cargo pants, then here are my favourite options on the market right now! My pair from Mango are currently sold out (*sigh*), but I've linked similar below. Click on the images to shop now!

  1. So take turns:
pants are absolutely brilliant and fit you perfectly; it was a very successful purchase; for the future, maybe you would try a jogger cut made of such material?
Regarding the styling, I discuss in turn:
1.T-shirt and shoes are ok; I would just not pull up the trouser legs - they would look better when lowered to the ankles.
2.Revelation. Nothing more nothing less; possibly as an accessory something for a neck-chain; chocker; or a small scarf.
    3. Cool styling. I suggest changing your ankle boots; turtleneck sweater; fill the neckline with a shawl or a scarf.
    4. Elegant variant; how about such solutions:
    a. black high heels; a white shirt blouse with an unbuttoned button under the neck, and a cape around the neck?
a blouse in pastel colors to match the high heels you are wearing.
I also hope that these pants will still appear on your blog.
