The Shoe Trends For Autumn Winter 2020

*Disclaimer: Affiliate links are used, it does not cost you anything extra!*

I'm in a very autumnal mood, which is weird when I'm living in a tropical country. However when said tropical country is having weather that literally matches that of England, you'd bound to feel a little autumnal. Or a lot.

So me writing posts about Autumn Winter fashion doesn't seem out of place in my life.
Plus, I will never not write about shoes. And as you can tell from the title, I'm indulging on that love.

A new season brings a new set of changes, and for your wardrobe that may mean digging things back out to get you through the colder weather. We've all got boots we love that may have been sitting around collecting dust for the last few months, we've thought about them from time to time, missing them a little (especially during 2020 when we haven't really been able to go out and wear shoes). Well now is the time we can start lusting over those boots wholeheartedly and put them on display.

With that said, though there are classic styles we can rewear time and again over the years, there are also new trends that we may be considering. I'm here to break down the shoe trends that'll take you from Autumn Winter this year and into the years to come.

Biker & Combat Boots

This is a style that's not going away anytime soon and dare I say it, may be a new classic. I love the style when paired with feminine outfits to give them a tough edge, it's definitely my style. But I will say I can't do those massive clunky ones; I have big feet and they will make me look like a clown. But I still love the style and recommend it to any fashion girl or guy who wants to try it. You've probably seen them everywhere in various styles, whether it's the newly iconic Prada boots or a pair from the high street. My personal preference right now are the Nicholas Kirkwood Casati Combat Boots with the pearl embellishments at the heel. If that does not scream *Emily* then I don't know what does.

Slouchy Calf Boots

We all know about ankle boots, knee high boots and thigh high boots, which are all amazing and should never not see the light of day in the colder months. However, they have a new competitor. Well not new, but they are about to take centre stage a little more. Yes, I'm talking about gorgeous calf length, slouch effect boots. Ugh. I can see me wearing them in every way possible. I want to wear them with tailored shorts, tights and a jumper, or with a midi dress that just skims over the top of the boot, or even with a mini jumper dress and a trench coat. Okay, yeah I pictured that last look and it's a winner. I think that slouch calf boots are going to add a new texture and edge as opposed to the typical favourites which is why they will shine in street style.

Brogues

I have been wearing brogues forever and I will never not love them. I used to wear them to school and I don't think anyone thought they were cool, but I loved them. I had so many different colours and styles, I thought they were brilliant and still do. They give you that "borrowed from the boys" edge and are perfect for the colder months, especially if you're a working girl and want to ditch the heels. Brogues are far more versatile than you think too. I like wearing them with dresses and skirts for a more feminine vibe but still keeping in that tom-boyish lane. For me they are a perfect addition to any wardrobe, especially during the A/W season.

Platforms

According to the runways, platforms are making a comeback and why not take on the 70s icon? Personally I think platforms are perfect for comfort, that extra height it gives to the soles of your feet are a dream. But also, they just give you that little something different and I think after the year we've had, everyone's willing to take the risk. The retro style may be a little trickier to style if you're new to it, but I say, go for it. Try it out the way you want and own it. Platforms have a way of giving you a new confidence.

Timberlands

Controversial, but I'm going to say it; I think Timberlands are going to have a moment this year. I used to love my Timberlands when I was younger. My mum, my brother (who was a baby at the time) and I all had matching pairs and would wear them relentlessly through Autumn Winter. They were perfect for British weather. And now that Jimmy Choo has done a collaboration with the brand, I have a feeling the fashion elite are not going to let it just sit on the sidelines. Timberlands are going to be the practical shoe trend for the season, but they may just make it onto the street style checklist.

Chained & Embellished

Whilst we have to be practical during the colder months, that doesn't mean we can't have a little fun with our footwear. And plus, with Christmas right around the corner (yes, Christmas, I don't care, it's my favourite time of year and I'm already in the spirit), we can all get away with adding extra sparkle to our looks. For me, I like the idea of pairing your embellished summer sandals with tights so you don't have to put them away until next year! Also, your bejewelled courts can be the perfect addition to a date night outfit, or even a day outfit if you're feeling super bold. Anyway, the sky probably looks a little gloomy, embellishments might just brighten your mood. And if you aren't all for the sparkle but still want something extra, chain detailing is the hit in the fashion world right now with it literally being put onto everything. So chains may also be your friend.

Which style are you leaning to more? What are you excited to purchase or dig out of your wardrobe? Let me know in the comments below. Also, if there's any other trends you'd like me to tap into for AW20, let me know. Or if you've got any other post requests, I'm all ears.

Sending you lots of love and hoping you're staying safe,

Emily xx
