Here Comes The Sun: Yellow Dresses To Wear Throughout Summer

June is here and that means Summer has begun, which means sunshine is inevitable. Which is ironic for two reasons; 

1. I'm currently living in a tropical country where sunshine is the norm.

2. I'm currently writing this as rain pours down. 

Nevertheless, it's the sunshine season and this year, the rays that beam are also making their way into our wardrobes. I'm seeing a lot of bright colour, but yellow right now is a true vibe. It's a colour that will instantly bring light into your day and match the mood of season. 

Yellow is the colour of happiness, optimism and enlightenment; it's one of those feel good colours. When it comes to fashion, it's definitely a daring colour for those who stick to neutrals or those who are only just dipping their toe into the technicolour pool, but here me out - it's not that hard to wear. 

I find that you can combine two worlds so easily here. For me, when it comes to sunshine yellow, I love to pair it with nude tone accessories and gold jewellery. There's this beautiful synchronicity that comes with pairing these together that both mellow down the brightness of the yellow, whilst also allowing it to shine. 

For me, when it comes to yellow it's all about the dresses. I just find that yellow dresses are perfect for Summer and they are hassle free. You don't have to think too much about what you're going to wear with it because it's all about the accessories. Plus, dresses are the attire for the season; convince me otherwise. I spend my days in dresses during the Summer or when I'm on holiday, as I know many of us do. 

I feel like I need to make a playlist to go along with the vibe that yellow sets when you wear it. But for now, just play "Sunshine (The Light)" by Fat Joe, DJ Khaled & Amorphous and then wear all the yellow your heart desires to lift your mood and be one with the weather.

The Summer Colours That Are Coming With Me To Autumn

Summer is officially over. It went by so quickly, honestly I'm rather disappointed. I did not want the season to end. Now that we are in Autumn, the hues of our wardrobe are going to start to change like the leaves on trees. Wow, corny I know. But it's true. But we don't have to give up all the colours that made a statement this past summer. There are four colours that have definitely made their splash this season and they are a wave I'm going to continue to ride out even into this season. I mean they were across the AW19 runway shows, so why not? 

Sage & Pistachio Green

Honestly, I am surprised I like this colour. I never used to. I love a strong emerald green, but sage green is definitely up there too now. It's a beautiful pastel that dominated during the AW19/20 Runway shows, but it's making it's statement early. 

  

Yellow

Another standout from the Runway, yellow is definitely the brightener for your wardrobe. Mustard tones are the leader of the pack right now, but I do love a sunshine yellow too. It just makes perfect sense for Summer. 

   

   

Lilac

A pretty girly colour for the summer that I simply love. Purple is the new pink right now. The hue is definitely romantic, perfect for a summer romance. I really don't need to say much about it because the colour is gorgeous. Also, did you see Kendall Jenner in a lilac two piece? Yeah, that's more than enough reason to wear the colour. 

 

 

Baby Blue

Blue is my favourite colour and I'll embrace all its hues. Baby blue has to be my favourite. It's both sweet and calming in tone and just looks good at any time. In the Summer, it's the reminder of the sea and sky. I truly do not have enough of this colour in my wardrobe, but oh is that about to change.

THE EASIEST WAYS TO STYLE YELLOW

 

The colour of the SS19 season has to be yellow. The warmest of colours, it reminds you of sunshine and happiness. We're going to be wearing every shade, from pale to neon, bright to sunshine, mustard, canary - you name it, a fashion girl will be wearing it. I personally will be sticking with 3 shades; mustard, canary and sunshine. 

Yellow can be quite a daunting colour because of its overwhelming brightness, but we shouldn't shy away from it. There are many ways that we can make yellow a more accessible colour to our wardrobes, even if you're a minimalist.

What I'm Wearing

I've taken on one of my bolder yellow tops and paired it with a pair of tailored checkered suit trousers and a pair of nude perspex heels from Tony Bianco. It's really just as simple as that. It's not daunting and I quite like this look. I have a few other bolder yellow pieces that I'm going to try and tackle soon, so watch out for that. 

Enough of that, here's my tips to styling yellow.

If you want to go all out, do it. 

 What I love about this piece is how sunshine yellow it is, as well as the pleated, halterneck and low back design. It's simple in design, but statement in colour. That's definitely a good choice to make when wearing yellow if you aren't all that comfortable. Go for something that is simple in design yet bold in colour, then dress it according to your style - pick muted colours to compliment like whites and nudes. 

    

   

   

Try yellow accessories

Sometimes we aren't comfortable wearing a single block colour, especially if we are set in our ways of fashion. But we can use a little something-something to jazz up pieces we have worn multiple times. Why not add that subtle pop of colour that you've wanted to? For this season, go for yellow. It can be plain or patterned and any kind of accessory; jewellery, shoes, bag, scarf, whatever fits your fancy. I've linked a few pieces below that I love for accessorising. 

       

 

You won't look like a bumblebee

Styling black with yellow instantly spurs the thought, "I'm going to look like a bumblebee". You won't if you do it right. A black pair of subtle heels and maybe a leather jacket won't make you look like a bee, I promise you. You'll look more edgy than tiny bug. My ideal options would be a pair of those The Row & Jacquemus style strappy sandals, which are being duped everywhere, to pair with a yellow piece. A classic leather jacket or even a black blazer with the sleeves rolled will turn down the volume on the bold colour and make you look sophisticated. If you're really against the black, go for brown or nudes to contrast and turn down the colour. Here's a few affordable options for you to dive into. 

    

   

Jump on the Trend Wagon

Rattan and shells are all the rage this Spring Summer, so why not go full seasonal with accessorising yellow with the trends? You'll be extra beachy, extra summery and just full of good vibes. I don't have much to say other than go for it! Here's the best pieces out there right now to do just that. 

  

   

    

Personally, I don't think yellow should be as daunting as it seems. Maybe there's a bunch of you who are like, "Emily what are you on about? We can easily style yellow." But some people don't feel as comfortable and may be trying to figure out the best ways. These options above are my go-tos for the colour. Just go for it. It's going to be a dominate colour this season and I have a feeling it'll work it's way into AW19 too. I'm excited to experiment more with the colour and I hope you do too.
