Back To Basics: The Wardrobe Basics You Need To Start The Year

Top - Missguided (similar here) / Shorts - Zara (similar linked below)

I was debating what to write about this week and for the life of me, I couldn't come up with something until I was browsing online on Zara & H&M making orders for myself. We're in the middle of the first month of the year and it's definitely a good time to set the tone for your wardrobe. I always love to start with basics and I know I've spoken about this topic before, but you can never go wrong. You simply can never have enough. With the world still uncertain and the prospect of working from home still very much expected, basics are a good way to make yourself put together yet comfortable at home. I'm not saying ditch the sweats yet, but for those days you feel you need to up your productivity levels, putting on a comfy pair of jeans and a tee will definitely put your body and mind in the right frame. I've decided to steer you to some of the picks in my baskets right now that are versatile and classic.

Tees - My Tip: Size up on tees for more comfort and ease of style.

Knits - You can never have too many knits, go for the classics or go for the extraordinary. Whatever you do, have a collection of them especially in the winter months.

Denim - I'm in a tropical climate (that's having it's cold days though...) so I am still wearing my staple denim shorts but having a pair of classic skinnies, regular or cropped, is the perfect staple to renew in your wardrobe. Go for the signature blue.

What would you consider your basics or essentials in your wardrobe? What's the one thing you find yourself constantly going back to or in need of! Let me know in the comments below. And let me know what you'd like to see next on the blog. I've also got YouTube videos coming up too, including the first vlog of the year next Wednesday! So stay tuned over on my Instagram for the latest updates.

Hope you're all staying safe and well! Sending you lots of love,

Autumn Winter Trend Alert: Sweater Vests

It seems as though 2020 Autumn Winter fashion is about to have a Chandler Bing moment because I am seeing sweater vests everywhere and we can only credit the king of the style if we're heading in that direction. And maybe sweater vests might save something in 2020 because the style is way chicer than expected.

I've started to see the style creep out from various of the big influencers such as Matilda Djerf and honestly, didn't think I'd love it as much as I do. It's the perfect style for transition season that will work right through to Autumn Winter.

It mixes both preppy and grandpa chic, which is a strange combination without context but it works.

To style a sweater vest that is ideally fashion girl is wearing an oversized shirt underneath, paired with a pair of trousers (flares would be super cool) or a skirt and a little shoulder bag for statement. If you've got a Saddle-esque bag, then the way to go.

Want to try the style out? I've found the best sweater vest picks on the market right now to channel your inner Chandler Bing.

The Zara Dupe Of The Infamous Khaite Knit Co-Ord Has Dropped Again

After Katie Holmes stepped out in that Khaite knit co-ord back in November, everyone wanted it and it set the bar for knit bralettes and cardigan co-ords to make a statement. Nearly a year on and I'm still thinking about that set.

Since then, Khaite has made a name for itself as brand and has risen in the influencer world with more and more buying pieces from it. And their knit pieces are most definitely the hit of the collection.

As we transition from Summer to Fall, that knit co-ord is going to be a hit. But at the price point of over £1000, it may not be worth it for some.

Cue Zara.

Zara already did a dupe of the Khaite co-ord when it blew up the fashion world and it's returned again in their latest collection, with matching shorts. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to share it with the world because this co-ord is one of those unique pieces that is a staple. It's perfect for any time of year, whether it's casual wear on a day out or lounging around at home. The pieces can be layered or worn separately and I think they are perfectly timeless.

So whether you're thinking about the Khaite set or the Zara dupe, you can shop them both now as the perfect transition season pieces.

All The Knitwear You Need For AW19/20

Outfit: Jumper - M&S / Jeans - Missy Empire (old)

We're in the thick of the Autumn Winter season and if you haven't made excuses to buy knitwear yet, then what are you waiting for? Knitwear is truly essential for the colder months, or if you live in England when you need jumpers for at least 80% of the year. When I look for new knitwear, I usually stick to the same two places: Marks & Sparks and Zara. Why? Because the quality lasts forever and the styles are timeless. So of course my selection to shop below is crowded with pieces from there, as well as Mango & Nasty Gal. I've not actually shopped from Nasty Gal yet (it's been a while since I've shopped, it's quite shocking), but I've seen the quality and price points are so great, you can't miss it.

My tips for investing in knitwear are to go for the basics first and buy them in your staple colours; black, white, grey, navy and neutrals, even a pop of colour (red & green are perfect, yes I know Christmasy but trust me). Then go wild with the patterns and colours once you've covered the staples.

Stand out piece: That oversized grey cape number from Mango is so good!

Lots of Love,

Emily xx
